Protest: Don't Cut LUL Staff

11/08/2010 - 08:30

Wednesday 11th August, Euston Station, London, 8.30am

RMT is holding a mass leaflet of the public on Wednesday morning outside Euston Station and we’d be grateful for your assistance. Wednesday is the day that the LUL ballot result will be announced.

Criticism of the Proposed Ticket office Roster for Liverpool Street Station

One of the SAMFs at Liverpool Street Station and a recent recruit to the RMT Union supplied me with some excellent criticism of the proposed job cuts and roster, he wrote:

FAQs: Job Cuts

Here are some questions being asked by staff about the London Underground's current round of job losses ...

Before answering the questions, a caveat. It is RMT's intention to stop these job cuts. Lots of staff, understandably, are saying "I am being displaced". But at present, the truth is that management plan to displace you. We plan to stop them.

RMT demands investigation as Euston escalator fire exposes lethal consequences of axing tube station staff

TUBE UNION RMT today demanded a full external investigation into an escalator fire at Euston station four weeks ago where smoke detection systems failed and the station was only safely evacuated through the experience and vigilance of station-based staff. RMT have this morning referred the matter to the safety regulator the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR).

Blackhorse Road group: Our objections to the effects of the job cuts

Below is the collective grievance submitted by the union reps (RMT and TSSA) on the Blackhorse Road group, listing the reasons why we object the effect that London Underground's job-cutting plans will have on our staffing levels and rosters.

More Support From Passengers

"I wanted to protest vigorously at the planned cut of staff at Warwick Avenue Station.

"This very busy station is important to all its users- tourists, locals, business people travelling at peak times. It has been the target of many incidents prevented by the attendance of its vigilant and kind staff

"I feel that it is important to keep it adequately staffed at all times."

Ten Reasons Why Revenue Staff Should Vote YES-YES to Save Jobs

1. Because the merging of the three revenue units into one was a prototype for these cuts. Look at the effects this has had: extremely low morale; higher stress levels; more disjointed, unrealistic workloads for management and admin. Imagine how bad it would be if this was spread to the rest of LUL.

Industrial Action Ballot - Stop London Underground Job Cuts!

From Bob Crow, General Secretary ...

You will shortly be receiving a ballot paper to your home address over the massive job cuts that LUL Management are planning. These disastrous cuts will result in detrimental working conditions and seriously undermine safety of staff and the travelling public.

RMT welcomes cross-party support for campaign against tube station job cuts

TUBE UNION RMT has welcomed the tabling of a motion at tomorrow’s London Mayor’s Question Time, in the names of Labour’s Val Shawcross and the Lib Dem’s Caroline Pidgeon, calling on Boris Johnson to review plans to axe 800 station staff jobs and to close or slash the opening times of 245 ticket offices.

Special issue of 'RMT Platform' - ten reasons why you should vote YES-YES

Please find attached the new issue of 'RMT Platform', our newsletter for London Underground station and revenue staff. It reports on what has been happening at talks with the company, explains how the job cuts will affect staff, answers frequently-asked questions, and offers ten reasons why staff should vote Yes in RMT's ballot for industrial action. Please download and distribute widely.

Ten Reasons Why Station Staff Should Vote YES-YES to Save Jobs

1. Because these job cuts will be a disaster for all of us - every grade of station staff; other grades of Underground workers; and passengers too.

2. Because LU management are not listening to your union reps in talks. Industrial action will make them listen.

RMT Serves Notice of Ballot for Action Against Job Cuts

Circular No IR/171/10 from RMT General Secretary Bob Crow

I write to advise branches that after substantial and detailed preparations, notice has been served on London Underground of a ballot for strike action and action short of a strike over the company’s disastrous plans to cut jobs. Papers will be sent to home addresses shortly and the ballot is due to close on Wednesday 14 July 2010. I would be grateful if you could make your members aware of this situation and urge all LUL members to vote strongly in favour of action to fight these cuts.
