Proposed Station Groups Reorganisation: Details for the Bakerloo line

London Underground's proposed new groups for the Bakerloo line are as follows:

Wembley Central - Harrow & Wealdstone, Kenton, South Kenton, North Wembley, Wembley Central, Stonebridge Park, Harlesden, Kensal Green, Queens Park - 9 stations, c.95 staff

  • Current number of staff = 40, but this is signficantly and artificially low, as London Underground has still not increased the staffing of these stations to LU levels following their transfer from Silverlink in November 2007.

Oxford Circus - Kilburn Park, Maida Vale, Warwick Avenue, Edgware Road, Marylebone, Regents' Park, Oxford Circus - 7 stations, c.155 staff

  • This is the current Marylebone group, with Oxford Circus added. Currently, Marylebone group has 110 staff; Oxford Circus has 61, and its share of its existing group reserve is around 21. Total = c.182. Therefore, management's proposal represents a loss of around 27 staff on these stations.

Charing Cross - Piccadilly Circus, Charing Cross, Lambeth North, Elephant & Castle - 4 stations, c.135 staff

  • This is the current Charing Cross group, with Piccadilly Circus added. Currently, Charing Cross group has 112 staff; Piccadilly Circus as 43, and its share of its existing group reserve is around 17. Total = c.172. Therefore, management's proposal represents a loss of around 37 staff on these stations.

Bakerloo line totals - 3 groups, 20 stations, 385 staff
Bakerloo line current totals - 4 groups, 20 stations, 394. So around 9 jobs are lost, but this figure does not account for the current under-staffing of the Wembley Central group. Excluding this group, 64 jobs will be lost.

Current Charing Cross group reserve staff would have to work at Piccadilly Circus as well as at the stations that they cover at present. This represents significant extra travelling time for staff, many of whom live in south London.

Current Marylebone group reserve staff would have to work at Oxford Circus as well as at the stations that they cover at present. This represents significant extra travelling time for staff, many of whom live in north London.

Current Oxford Circus group reserve staff would probably be redeployed to either the new Oxford Circus (ie. current Marylebone) group reserve or the Charing Cross group reserve, and may not get to choose which. So they could end up working as far north as Kilburn Park or as far south as Elephant & Castle, a significant change from their current work at either Oxford Circus or Piccadilly Circus stations. They will incur a big increase in travelling time and in the unpredictability and inconvenience of their duties.
