Report: RMT Station & Revenue Grades Meeting, 24 April 2008

Meeting Secretary: Brian Haughian 07949 163470

Attendance: 7 members, from the following groups: Oxford Circus, Charing Cross, Goodge Street, Buckhurst Hill, Earls Court, Bank

Apologies: Brian H, Neil C

  1. Coverage / vacancies

The local rep highlighted a particular problem at Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus: loads of posts vacant; part-time duties left uncovered; GSM claims Resourcing not releasing staff to fill vacancies; two platforms having no announcements during the peaks.

Agreed that the local rep should demand an emergency level 1 meeting.

  2. Sickness

Input needed from reps and members re. management's use of the notion of a 'pattern' to persecute staff. We oppose the whole notion of punishment for a 'pattern', but it is in LUL policy, so we need to fight for stringent rules about its application.

Agreed that we would like the union to produce a 'know your rights' guide on attendance (and discipline) - Malcolm and Janine working on this.

  3. Promotion

Janine circulated the draft questionnaire, and several suggestions were made for amendments. Agreed as amended. All reps to circulate the questionnaire on their groups.

  4. Ticket Offices

Agreed that we should not allow the union's campaigning to slacken during the months ahead, as the closures are bound to return. We need: regular reports from the reps who attend negotiations; public campaigning; to revive the campaign committee, with new members and reps from other grades.

  5. Christmas Day working

Unions will be negotiating with management the conditions for Christmas Day working. We agreed to have further discusssion about whether we accept the idea of Christmas Day working at all.

  6. SA(CR) coaches

Noted that some members may lose out from the creation of the SA(CR) Coach grade, as they had been informally paid at SS3 rate while coaching. However, they may not lose out, because in the new grade, they will be paid the Coaching rate all the time, not just while coaching.

  7. Special Requirements Team

Malcolm reported. He believes that management will use the SRT to replace project staff, and to disguise under-staffing by using it to keep stations open.

  8. Website

Janine proposed the creation of a website for stations & revenue staff, giving full details of what a useful resources it would be. Agreed to write to branches asking for donations towards cost (£600 set-up; ongoing £10ish per month).

  9. Intranet

We noted that lots of policies and procedures are missing from the Intranet. Functional reps to pursue with management.

Next meeting, Thursday 29th May 2008
15:00hrs upstairs at Exmouth Arms, Starcross Street, NW1 (Near Euston).
Please arrive early as the meeting will start on time.
