Brixton: Step Back Supervisor Duties
Brixton station has "Step Back" duties for Station Supervisors, working on the platform to help with the quick turnaround of trains. Union reps have been concerned about various aspects of their introduction, including: lack of clarity about their role, inadequate training, excessive time on platforms, and ensuring that SS1s nominating Brixton know that the post includes Step Back duties.
Local management had failed to address these concerns adequately, so we discussed them at the Stations & Revenue Council on 26 November. The outcome was:
- There will be clear guidelines on the role (printed, we insisted!)
- Management will look at the issue of Competence Management
- Management will write to everyone on the waiting list for Brixton Station Supervisor to advise them that it includes Step Back duties
- Rotation will take place every two hours, unless the staff involved at the time do not want it to
- Any Supervisor who fails the training will be offered retraining
- DSMs will be released to give training to Supervisors of an adequate standard
Representation from your union has ensured that (at least some of) your rights are being upheld. RMT will, of course, keep on monitoring the situation.
