Ten Reasons Why Station Staff Should Join RMT

RMT logo1. RMT is London Undergrond's largest trade union - bigger than all the others put together. This gives us the clout to win for workers. And the more staff join up, the more clout we will have and the more we can win.

2. RMT is London Underground's only all-grades union - the only union that can represent you whatever grade your career takes you to - staying on stations, or moving on to revenue control, driver, admin, training, service control, engineering, or any other area.

3. Trouble may come your way - RMT will stand up for you, represent you, take legal or industrial action if appropriate. You may face disciplinary action, or have a grievance, or apply for flexible working, or need special leave, or have a domestic crisis, or develop a medical problem, or have some other reason why you need representation - RMT's trained and committed reps will accompany and support you, and demand that your rights are upheld.

4. Managers routinely bully and mistreat staff - RMT not only represents individual staff, but also collectively demands an end to management bullying.

5. London Underground is refusing to fill vacancies, and driving business away from ticket offices, in preparation to cut jobs. RMT has won your right not to be made compulsorily redundant, and last year stopped the company closing ticket offices. We are campaigning against job cuts and for vacancies to be filled.

6. London Underground wants to impose a pay offer which will see you just 22p per day better off next year if you are a CSA - RMT is the only union seriously fighting for a better deal.

7. RMT has a rep in every workplace, so takes up issues from the smallest local matter to company-wide issues.

8. RMT fights discrimination and demands equality - we campaign against racism, sexism and homophobia, and for rights and equality for disabled people.

9. RMT has democratic structures through which every member can raise the issues that matter to you.

10. RMT looks beyond London Underground - we support other workers' struggles (eg. postal workers), defend the environment against climate change, oppose public service cuts, and support international struggles against oppression.
