Higher Grade Working agreement (HGW)
To all RMT members - Management have reneged on a long standing agreement whereby if you are stepped up to cover a job on HGW for any amount of time you would be paid the whole shift at the higher rate. Management are now stating that at least 2 hours or more need to be worked before the whole shift is paid at the higher rate. The original agreement had ‘2 hours’ as an example but was historically never the set criteria for paying HGW.
Your Union is therefore advising its members to refuse any HGW that doesn’t constitute 2 or more hours as LU are using this interpretation of HGW as a way of not filling jobs and keeping stations open on the cheap. Members need to be aware that LU is currently trying to leave 260 vacancies open which is having a huge impact on Transfer & Promotions and is therefore preventing staff with a licence (that would enable them to gain promotion) from moving into another position.
