Women in Danger from Serial Rapist: Your Right to Safe Transport Home
There has been a series of rapes of women in the Walthamstow area. On some local station groups, RMT reps have successfully argued that management should provide door-to-door special taxis for women staff to get home.
The union is currently working on extending this to workers in all grades who live or work in this area.
If you feel that you need a door-to-door taxi to ensure your safe travel, please speak to your RMT rep and raise this with local management immediately. Draw his/her attention to the Staff Travel handbook, a section of which states that local manager have the right if they have "vulnerable staff" to make "alternative arrangements" such as door-to-door cabs, changing shifts etc.
RMT believes that staff taxis should run door-to-door as a matter of course, and the current, shocking situation simply underlines the case for this.
