Snow day pay: Taking the issue to the GLA
RMT has written to all members of the Greater London Assembly (except the BNP bloke - we don't lobby fascists) asking them to ensure that London Underground keeps Boris Johnson's promise and stops deducting pay or leave from staff who genuinely could not attend work due to the heavy snowfall in February. You may wish to contact your own GLA member to help follow up this letter. You can find out who s/he is by clicking here.
We also delivered the letters to City Hall on Wednesday 17 June, accompanied by a snowman (pictured, addressing assembled protesters).
RMT has also tabled the issue for discussion at the forthcoming Company Council.
We are currently attempting to establish whether London Underground has treated different grades differently on this issue. We are aware of several dozen train drivers being granted special paid leave (but also some drivers unfairly denied this), but are not aware of any station or revenue staff who have been allowed paid special leave. RMT will vigorously challenge any grade discrimination and will continue to pursue this issue, even though it is now the height of summer!
You can help with this by giving us up-to-date information on your situation, and encouraging your workmates to do likewise, via this online form.
