What no canteen???
The redevelopment of King's Cross station continues apace - and LUL doesn't want to be troubled by little matters like the needs of staff.
Circle management say there are too few staff at the station to warrant us having canteen facilites. King's Cross currently has 176 staff - at the one location. The Group, (KX & Farringdon & Barbican), has 211.
But KX's new North Ticket Hall is due to open on December 1st, and this will require a projected 60/65 extra staff. Not only do management say there are too few staff, they also say there's insufficient space for a canteen. The new facility will be more than twice the size of the entire current station. It is truly vast. The simple fact is that King's Cross station has a bigger staffing complement than some train crew depots. But what are known as 'human factors' seem not to have been factored in.
It is the same with staff changing facilities. All CSAs currently use the same locker room, male & female. The locker room has a pool table in it. The pool table is the only recreational facility on the station. Management have now said that in order to cram even more lockers into the existing facility the pool table will have to go. Apparently, there's no room on the new super-dooper station for decent locker rooms.
The RMT's H&S rep has furnished management with the Health & Safety Executives legal stuff regarding the obligation on the employer to provide seperate facilities. These items, and other, have now been referred to the Functional Council. There's no way we're gonna allow our members to be sidelined as the new areas come on stream.
