RMT Council of Executives has formally supported Jerome Bowes after being sacked by LUL during an incident on new years eve 2007.

Jerome witnessed a violent fight between two passengers and when the fight broke up Jerome was on the receiving of verbal abuse. After a drunken passenger had manhandled Jerome, he was moving to a place of safety when this Passenger punched him in the back and our colleague swung round to defend himself and caught the person fracturing a small bone in his own wrist.

The police were called and after speaking to the person involved, the Met police left - taking no further action.

When the BTP turned up they were confronted by the person being loud and aggressive in the supervisors office. When the person calmed down he was free to leave.

After an hour or so, because Jerome was in pain the Station Supervisor advised him to go to the hospital. It transpired that he had a broken bone in his wrist.

The upshot of all this is that Jerome has been sacked! Jerome is abused and assaulted and he is sacked! This is madness.

DSM’s never showed up on the night. This is new years eve at the Elephant & Castle - why were there no managers assisting at one of the busiest stations at new year?

The witness statements from staff back Jerome to the hilt.

The EIRF backs Jerome. Yet he was still sacked.

Jerome’s colleagues find this treatment unacceptable. The RMT also finds this unacceptable.

The union is balloting all our members on the Charing Cross Group. At the same time we are taking this issue to Directors Appeal.

Show management the strength of feeling on this. Show management we are not prepared to allow this injustice to continue.

Use your vote. Vote YES.

Ballot papers must be returned by Wednesday July 16th.

If you do not receive your ballot paper telephone RMT on 0800 376 3706.

UNITED WE WILL WIN JEROME'S REINSTATEMENT
