RMT has told LU we are in dispute over Transfer Threat

At the last level 2 meeting to discuss the threat to transfer 8 CSAs away from Rickmansworth group management claimed that all 8 had signed letters that told them they may be given a temporary position on their first group.

None of the members affected on this group have any knowledge of such a letter and management have not been able to produce copies to show they have been signed. In addition it is clear that any such letter would be invalid as there has been no consultation with the unions over its content. Any change to normal contractual terms and conditions must be consulted on under the LU machinery of negotiation and ACAS code of practice. On top of this we have the minutes of a L2 meeting from 2006 where RMT made it clear to management that any staff being sent over-establishment for project work on a group MUST be told in advance that their position is a temporary one. None of the members on this group were told any such thing.

I have been told that management intend to discus this matter again at the scheduled L2 meeting this Thursday (19/6/08) and I hope they will, at last, realise that they cannot make our members pay for their mistakes. Having discussed this with many of you it is now also clear that members will support our members if the threat to transfer them is not lifted. Therefore if management go ahead with transfers I will seek a ballot for strike action to defend members on this group.
