Unions Scent Victory on Ticket Office Closures
At the Mayor's Question Time on 18 June, Boris Johnson replied to a question about planned closure of London Underground ticket offices by saying, "Consider the threat has been lifted, annihilated, vapourised, liquidated, exterminated, removed, obliterated, as of now."
Read a report here.
We have contacted London Underground asking them to confirm that in compliance with this statement, the company will now abandon any plan to cut or close ticket offices.
Should this turn out to be true, it is a massive victory won by the efforts of RMT, our sister union TSSA, and passengers who added their voice to our protests. Our thousands of leaflets, letters and petitions, public meetings, and threat of strike action seem to have put sufficient pressure on the Mayoral candidates to make Boris Johnson feel compelled to scrap the plans in order to avoid loss of support.
