Who Polices Our Agreements?
Rick Grogan, RMT rep on East Ham group, writes ...
Because of LUL’s target-obsessed management style, more pressure is being heaped on staff and management abuses are becoming commonplace. Union reps bring up problems at local level; the manager says “that should not happen; we will put it right”; then the very next day they are at it again!
On East Ham group, managers demand home visits without asking the person’s permission, even turning up on the doorstep unannounced. They constantly phone staff at home when off sick. DSMs bully staff to attend meetings without union representation and stop their pay if they refuse.
Enough is enough! RMT needs to tell the board of directors to bring their local managers under control. The board must understand that we will not waste our time making agreements with them if local managers are allowed to rip them up at will.
RMT Stations and Revenue Council reps are demanding a robust system to police rogue managers and uphold agreements. Union reps must be able to contact a named senior manager to report wrong practice by local managers and get an immediate decision. This would help resolve issues such as pay deductions quickly rather than leave staff short of cash for months as happens now.
