Uber licence to operate in London not renewed

TAXI UNION RMT today welcomed Transport for London's ruling that Taxi app firm Uber will not be issued with a private hire operator licence renewal.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:

“Uber has consistently failed to reach acceptable standards of service, safety and security and we applaud this decision which is a victory for passengers and also a vital step in protecting the livelihoods of the skilled and experienced London taxi drivers who are being unfairly undercut by Uber.

London Transport Regional Council training day 25 May 1300-1500 at the 12 Pins Finsbury Park 

New anti Trade Union laws came into effect this year and we need to train our reps and activists in how the new laws will affect our ballot results. Equally important is how we organise to overcome the hurdles set by the Government.

The course will be held at 12 Pins, Finsbury Park on May 25 1300 - 1700

Focusing on our 3 members at London Bridge who have been disciplined for rushing to assist a co- worker who was being assaulted. That co-worker was pregnant.

Please download, print display and distribute across your workplace.

The ballot on London Bridge and Waterloo will begin on March 30 and ballot papers must be returned by April 18.

London Underground managers have been quoted on social media and in the press as saying "Kirsty Watts was never assaulted "

Taxi Union RMT gives guarded welcome to elements of Mayor's London Taxi strategy but warns that he has again missed key issue on plying for hire

Mick Cash, General secretary of London Taxi Union RMT said;

"The union gives a guarded welcome to elements of this package that have already been widely trailed and we now expect that our London Taxi reps will be fully engaged ‎in discussions as to how this strategy moves forwards.

The next meeting of the LTRC will be at the Torch PH in Wembley Park on Thursday September 29 1630 - 1830

Following an initiative from Neadsen Branch the LTRC will be travelling around the region using Branch locations to hold the monthly meeting.

Recruitment and organising activity will take place prior to the Regional Council.

Taxi union RMT responds to London Mayors' announcement today on enforcement.

"RMT welcomes the announcement by London Mayor Sadiq Khan today which will increase on-street enforcement for taxis and private hire. The union has repeatedly warned that unregulated drivers put the safety of Londoners at risk. ‎

RMT calls for urgent meeting with Mayor Sadiq Khan on tube, rail and taxis.

London's main transport union RMT  today called for urgent talks with newly elected Mayor Sadiq Khan to discuss a wide range of issues that the union says pose the biggest collective threat to transport services in the Capital since the Blitz. 

The RMT union agenda for talks includes;

Taxi drivers demonstrate against regulator TfL

On Wednesday 10 February taxi drivers re-dedicate themselves to a campaign of protests to highlight their sorrow and now rage at the regulatory capture of taxi authority Transport for London.

The first of a series of steadily escalating demonstrations will see RMT and other bodies representing taxis stage a ‘go slow’ outside No.10 Downing Street, with activities focused between 2:30 - 4pm.
