SEMINAR FOR RMT REPS & ACTIVISTS
Tuesday 23rd September
15.30 – 18.00 Boardroom, Unity House

RMT’s battle to achieve acceptable pay and conditions for cleaners has highlighted difficult issues of immigration law. The bosses are using these extreme reactionary laws to exploit workers. In some cases they claim workers have no employment rights - even after years of work.

Support Eurostar Cleaners

Tube cleaners have recently secured better wages. RMT cleaners are also fighting back elsewhere in the railway industry, and we ask for your help in supporting those who clean Eurostar. Please read the appeal from the union's Euro Passenger Services branch secretary below, and take a few minutes to send off the email that he suggests.

A 48-HOUR strike by more than 700 RMT members working for four cleaning subcontractors on London Underground scheduled to begin at 05:30 tomorrow morning has been suspended after a breakthrough in talks that will deliver the London living wage to all Tube cleaners.

After days of intensive talks at conciliation service ACAS, workers on Tubelines contracts will receive an initial 60p an hour increase from September 1, and will receive a further £1.30 hourly increase from April 1 2009.

RMT Tube cleaners to strike again for living wage

RMT press release, issued today

OVER 700 RMT members working for four cleaning subcontractors on London Underground are to strike for a third time in their campaign to win the London living wage.

Workers at ISS, ITS, ICS and GBM, who despite statements from London Mayor Boris Johnson are still paid nearly £2 an hour below the LLW of £7.45, will not book on for shifts that commence between 05:30 on Thursday August 21 and 05:29 on Saturday August 23.

Stand up to cleaning companies using immigration law to crush the strike!

Wednesday 13 August. Meet 11.30am, London Bridge to catch train to Maze Hill, Greenwich. To demonstrate outside ISS cleaning company head offices.

Just found out that several cleaners have been summonded tomorrow to present their national insurance numbers, part of their move to dismiss cleaners who took part in the strike and intimidate others as the next strike approaches. We don't expect or advise cleaning members to come, but we want to be there instead!

Please come and support the demonstration.
